What even is a hot take? Hot takes are a piece of commentary, typically produced quickly in response to a recent event, whose primary purpose is to attract attention. They can revolve around many different things, all just depending on the topic. Hot takes can very often just be one’s personal opinions. An example of a hot take that is just an opinion is “Pineapple does not belong on pizza.” Some individuals actually do love pineapple on pizza, while some do not.
While researching this topic, I found out that many people just use the words “hot take” to cover up their controversial opinions. Some people believe that “Bacon is actually gross and overrated.” To those individuals, it is just burnt pig, and they do not like the taste of it. On the technology topic, many diehard Apple fans get offended when people state that “Android is better than Apple.” A hot take that often sparks debate is whether cereal or milk goes in first. Many believe that if you put the cereal in first, then the milk, it will get soggy. “Socks with sandals is perfectly okay,” but what if you are at the beach? Do you really want your socks getting sand in them?
I spoke to other individuals in my journalism class to see if they had any interesting hot takes. Mr Martin’s hot take is “We’re all slowly becoming clankers.” He believes that because of students’ consistent use of AI. I spoke to Avery Glacinski who believes that pineapple on pizza is the best type of pizza. She stated, “I think it adds a nice tang and sweetness.” Many people turned their heads when they heard her state that, and it sparked a debate. Junior Jasper Wenger’s hot take was the following: “Can it really be a hot take if I’m always right?”
Is it good that we have hot takes? I believe it is. Hot takes let people have individuality and show personality. It also promotes good communication since people love to debate hot takes. Being able to state your hot take and provide evidence to support your opinion helps develop actual life skills.
