As the air gets brisk and fall slowly approaches, it is time for El Paso’s annual Corn Festival! It’s that time of the year when people come from all over to enjoy the delicious fair food and drinks. The Titan Times staff recommends the lemonade shake-ups, funnel cakes, and deep-fried mystery items.
Along with the amazing food, you can enjoy entertaining carnival games and rides that will make you want to sit down before you go on to the next. Some fan favorites are the Spinning Pumpkins, The Zipper, Zero Gravity, and The Rockstar. These fun, thrilling rides are one of the biggest attractions of the event! Pro tip: Don’t eat too much before you ride these or you might barf all over your friends.
While you’re preparing yourself for the next ride, you can also enjoy the free entertainment from the EPGHS Show Choir and some live music by different local artists that will make you want to sing along. The show choir performs at 7:00 pm on Thursday and Kelly & Sarah Finck (country singers and former EPG grads) perform from 6-9 on Friday. Saturday night features Brass from the Past, the hottest horn band in the Midwest, so bring your granny and dance to the oldies.
And don’t forget the carney games. There’s the ring toss, the lucky ducky, and the thing where you throw darts at balloons. A fan favorite is the coin pusher, where you insert coins, and as they pile up inside the machine, they get pushed to the edge and just may fall over. It’s like a slot machine for kids–how fun! You’re sure to lose all of your hard-earned money. And for a true rip-off, try to hang on the pull-up bar for a full two minutes. If you do, you get a prize. But you won’t because we’re pretty sure that bar is greased.
The rides, the live music, the carnival games, the local vendors–it’s all sure to make your wallet feel lighter and bring a smile to your face. And, don’t forget the parade at noon on Saturday. Be there or be square!
