The players of the EPGHS golf team are teed up for success as the season swings into action. The girls have already made an impressive start, finishing second at the Blue Ridge Tournament and placing four golfers in the top ten. They have had four matches so far and one tournament as of the current season.
When asked about the strengths and weaknesses of the girls team, Coach Quam responded, “Our team this year has 5 seniors who bring experience and strong leadership to our team. We continue to work on improving our short game with a focus on putting.”
The team’s leadership and unity seem to have paid off in recent years, with last season’s run to sectionals standing out as a highlight. One challenge, however, may come in the future: the roster is dominated by upperclassmen, leaving only a handful of underclassmen ready to step in.
On the boy’s side, the story looks quite different. With very few returning players but an abundance of freshmen, the team is young and full of potential. Their first match proved to be especially tough, taking place at The Den, which is widely regarded as one of the most challenging courses in the area. “The first match was there and it was a rough day,” admitted Head Coach Crump when asked about the match.
Despite the early challenges, the boys’ future looks promising. Coaches note that the team is improving every week, gaining confidence and experience as the season progresses. In conclusion, it’s safe to say that both teams have a promising future, and I can’t wait to see how they grow. Go Titans!
