Have you noticed a new police officer standing in the link? Meet our new Student Resource Officer, Lisa Shutt! Officer Shutt is from Creve Coeur, Illinois. She originally worked as a police officer at Metamora High School for three years, then was told about a position at EPG from a friend. She decided to go for it because she missed being in a school environment.
Before Officer Shutt became a police officer, she was a custodian at Eureka High School. After her custodian days, the Pekin Police Department hired her, and she went through a 3-month academy in Champaign at the Police Training Institute. She worked for the Pekin Police for a year and a half. She explained, “I enjoyed working with kids, even when I was a custodian, so I wanted to go back to that.” When she was a custodian, she discovered that she wanted to do more, which led her down the path of becoming a police officer. Although Officer Shutt wasn’t able to share any specific wild work stories, she did say, “People under the influence can be pretty crazy.”
Officer Shutt is “excited to get to know staff and students and be involved with the community and student activities.” She said she’s always up to chat, whether it’s a serious matter or not. She explained, “I’m an open book.” Next time you see Officer Shutt, give her a friendly smile and introduce yourself.
