Bringing better physical fitness to the EPGHS, Coach John Schippert! Mr. Schippert grew up in Carlock and attended school at Calvary Baptist in Bloomington. Currently, he lives in Normal.
For a little backstory, he graduated from Calvary in 1991 and graduated from ISU with a degree in Physical Education in 1998, earning a master’s degree in Recreational Administration in 2010. While he was in college, he started out in athletic training since he enjoyed learning about the human body, injury prevention, and the sports aspect of it. Yet, through learning it all, he realized he liked coaching the most. He started teaching in 1998, directly after graduating from ISU, and was previously teaching at BJHS for 27 years, but coached for the past 7 years at Cornerstone Christian Academy, earning 4th place in state in 2023. He also taught at other schools, such as BHS and NCHS.
Besides teaching P.E., he owns a roofing business named Redeemed Roofing, which he started in 2017. He also enjoys travelling with his wife and family, hiking, and doing construction/house projects. How did he end up at EPG? “God opened up a door here at EPG, and I felt peace and an answer to prayer.” He believes the friendliness of the community, staff, and students is what stands out about EPG to him. As our new head basketball coach, a motto he stands by is “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.” Be sure to say hello to Coach Schippert when you see him in the halls.
