The EPG varsity football squad isn’t the only undefeated team in town. The JV football team, led by coach Tanner Stockton, has also opened the season with an impressive 5-0 record. Their dominance began with a 44-6 victory over Reed Custer, highlighted by Silas Huette’s three touchdowns. The Titans continued their strong performance the following week when Keaton Malcom scored three touchdowns in a 46-0 win against Fieldcrest. They also recorded a 34-0 shutout over Dee-Mack, with Elliott Toth, Tom Erwin, Landon Feit, Keaton Malcom, and Silas Huette each adding a touchdown. Against GCMS, Malcom contributed two touchdowns and an interception in a 44-6 win. This past week, Elliott Toth scored twice in a 12-0 win over Tri-Valley. If JV playoffs existed, the Titans would be a strong contender for a deep run, much like their fast-paced varsity counterparts. While the JV squad may not always receive the spotlight, their relentless effort in practice pushes the varsity team to improve on both offense and defense.
According to Coach Stockton, the team has shown improvement across the board, thanks to increased playing time. He notes, however, that starting games with greater energy and mastering the playbook remain areas for growth. A defining strength of this JV group is their teamwork, with players supporting each other. Coach Stockton identifies leaders who set the tone by example, especially freshmen Carson Frieburg and Colin Martinez (for their vocal leadership). Keaton Malcom, Elliott Toth, Kole Petta, and Tom Erwin lead by example, as well. Coach Stockton praised the team’s improvement: “I love the fact that we’ve gotten better together, staying hungry each week.” He also noted the team’s ability to rally after halftime, saying, “Halftime is a wake-up call for us,” as the JV squad often performs even better in the second half. With a talented sophomore class boasting high football IQ, the JV team is poised for a standout season.
