Have you ever sat in class with someone who just can’t stop talking? Or, someone who has to add input on every little thing? It’s very irritating when people can’t stop talking in situations like a test, when a teacher is explaining something that you don’t understand, and even when you have work time. Well, if you’re this kind of person, I have three steps that will benefit you!
Learn to listen
It’s always a good idea to listen before you speak. It’s not a good idea to speak over others; it can be seen as being very disrespectful and annoying. Keep your head focused on their words instead of what you’ll say next. It’s okay to ask questions; it helps to show interest in the speaker and may help you understand. However, do not interrupt. Just wait until they’re finished speaking.Â
Pick your moments to speak
It’s okay to let some things go without saying anything. You don’t have to comment on every little thing; sometimes, silence says a lot. Not everything needs an opinion. If they ask for your opinion, then that’s a good moment to speak, but that’s different than just wanting to give your opinion for no reason. News flash, most may not care about your opinion because if they did, they would have asked.
Think before you speak
Take time to think about what you’re saying and ask yourself these questions: Is it relevant? Did they ask for your input? Is it something that needs to be said or just something you want to say? If you said yes to these questions, then that’s an okay time to put your thoughts into words. If you said no to these questions, I suggest you keep your trap shut. Â Â
