Brian Sepich serves as our world history, geography, and economics teacher. Many students consider Mr. Sepich to be a fun and uplifting teacher. But how much do you really know about him? He graduated from Farmington High School. He has been a teacher for 6 years now, 3 years here, 5 years as a sub, and 3 at a different school. When asked why he became a teacher, he said, ”It’s the only job that will let me nag kids about history and geography and still get paid for it.” If he had to choose a different subject than what he already does, he would choose to teach nutrition and culinary arts due to his love for cooking. He enjoys teaching history because he believes that history is interesting and it’s like a real-life story book!
Before Mr. Sepich became a teacher, he was a sales representative for Frito-Lays and a Power Play distributor. I know that being a teacher is hard, so I asked him how he manages his students, and he claims that setting straightforward rules and only raising his voice when needed has helped him keep students under control. The hardest part of being a teacher for him is trying to find engaging material when he knows that some students won’t find something interesting enough. His favorite kind of student is someone who enjoys participating and is interactive during class and who can connect lessons to the real world. When asked what his favorite part of school growing up was, he said,” Getting to see friends and engage in extracurricular activities, even if that meant just being in the stands.”
Outside of being a high school teacher, he enjoys golfing, trail running, walking with his wife, and cooking. His two favorite things to cook are meatballs and steak. His favorite historical topic to teach is ancient Rome. One of his favorite memories in all his years of teaching was when one of his teaching jobs ended, and it upset the 6th graders so much that they started crying. Lastly, Mr. Sepich’s advice to students is, “Enjoy high school. It goes faster than you think, and this is NOT the best time of your life.”
