If you’ve been to Starbucks or just know a lot about baking, chances are you’ve heard of Cake Pops. Cake Pops are small cake balls dipped in melted chocolate and put on a stick. They’re tricky to make, but once you get the formula down, the effort is very worth it since they taste divine.
Ingredients you will need: 1 cake of your choice, 1 container of icing or frosting, 1-2 containers of chocolate of your choice, lollipop sticks, toppings like sprinkles, and a hand or stand mixer.
Step 1. Make a cake, any flavor is fine, but I would suggest baking this a day ahead to let it cool.
Step 2. Crumble the cake into a larger bowl, add half a cup of icing to moisten it, and mix thoroughly to ensure everything is even.
Step 3. Take portions of the cake and roll them into even cake balls and place them on a pan. Then, place the cake balls into the fridge for an hour in order to set their shape. After the hour has passed, you may take them out of the fridge and reroll the cakes to smooth them out and place them back into the fridge for an hour and thirty minutes.
Step 4. While you are waiting, pour your chocolate into a container and put it in the microwave for 20 seconds. The chocolate probably won’t be fully melted yet, so stir it lightly and microwave it again for another twenty seconds. Repeat this stir-and-melt process until the chocolate is fully melted and liquified.
Step 5. Take the cake balls out of the fridge two at a time (or 4 if you’re doing this with a friend) and dip a stick into the melted chocolate and gently insert the stick about halfway through the cake. Gently dip your cakes into the melted chocolate, and feel free to melt it again if it starts to solidify in its container.
Step 6. Decorate your cake pops however you like with toppings, and place them somewhere where they can stay upright. Styrofoam or a box with holes poked into it works best, but you could also use a few cups! Repeat this process until all of your cake pops are done. The chocolate doesn’t take long to set, so feel free to eat some after you’re done!
And there you have it! Step-by-step instructions on how to make one of my favorite desserts. Although the process can be finicky and disheartening at times, don’t give up! I promise the result is worth it in the end! I hope you enjoyed this recipe, and maybe try your own hand at crafting these sweet delicacies.
