Christmas is coming up fast, and we are effectively chugging into the Christmas season. Although I personally like to listen to Christmas songs in July, most people wait until December. Hundreds of songs have been released for the season, and they’ve started to top streaming charts as more people begin listening to them. However, there is only so much time and so many songs to listen to. So which ones do you choose? From the classics to recent hits, there are so many incredible carols to spread holiday cheer. So here I present to you my personal top 8 Christmas songs you can play on loop for the 2025 season:
#8 – Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer by Gene Autry
This classic was released in 1949, and while countless revisions have been made, I still think this original is the best. He doesn’t overdo anything–keeps it simple and smooth. This one is definitely on my playlist this season.
#7 – Santa Baby by Eartha Kitt
One of my favorites from the 1950s, though not everybody’s cup of tea. Part of why I like it is the fact that nobody I see listening to it questions what it’s really about, because it’s just a good song. It isn’t very upbeat, but her softer-toned voice just works well with the music.
#6 – We Wish You A Merry Christmas by Random Choir
Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the original group or choir that sang this carol, and the earliest video of the choir version I could find came from 2014. Anyhow, the voices of children singing always boost my festive spirit whenever the song plays. It’s a staple of the holidays, and one hundred percent earns its spot in my top eight.
#5 – Jingle Bell Rock by Bobby Helms
Released in 1957, this hit may be one of the most iconic Christmas songs of all time. I honestly can’t cite anything specific that I really enjoy about this song, but whenever it plays, I can’t help but sing along. It’s almost magical, and I love it.
#4 – Let It Snow by Dean Martin
When I think about it, at one point in my childhood, I would’ve had this at #1. Things change though, and although it’s moved down, this classic still gets me pumped up with its less intense nature that somehow makes my day a little bit jollier whenever I hear it. Definitely worth tossing into your Christmas loop.
#3 – Santa Claus is Coming to Town by Frank Sinatra
When I think of Santa Claus, I think of this song. And while he may or may not actually be coming to town, the song certainly brings spirit every time it plays. This song takes its spot in the top three and reminds me that even though everybody around me says otherwise, Santa Claus is real.
#2 – All I Want For Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey
I’m not sure I know of anybody who doesn’t know this song. It’s hard not to sing along with, and it’s one of the all-time greatest for a reason. It’s music like this that can really brighten your day when you need some joyful spirit. It can serve as a reminder that Christmas is also about the people we spend it with.
#1 – White Christmas by Bing Crosby
There’s a reason this is the most sold (physical) single of all time. It’s slow-paced, and for some reason, it scratches my brain just right. This is my go-to Christmas song, and it tells me when I see snow on the ground, Christmas is drawing near… except for when it’s January, I suppose. Or February. I digress, my point is this song symbolizes the connection between winter and the holiday season. And while honestly, I’m not a big fan of snow, I am a big fan of Christmas, which happens to occur around the same time it snows.
