Green Gables – some may be unaware of the tasty treasures served up in this historic eatery. Avery, Addison, and Oliva went to the restaurant to review the food, atmosphere, service, etc. We ordered three appetizers: cheddar cheese balls, corn nuggets, and mozzarella sticks. Avery got a Shirley Temple with, not one, but two cherries! Addison got a Pepsi, and Oliva got Cherry Pepsi. The waitress made sure to keep our drinks full. After our appetizers, we ordered one plain cheeseburger, one cheeseburger with everything on it, a hot ham and cheese sandwich, and a kid’s chicken tender. The kid’s chicken tender normally comes with two tenders, but our waitress found out we were doing a school project and gave us three so we could all try one!
This iconic restaurant and bar near Lake Bloomington began in 1929 as a gas station and later became a general store and bar. It was a popular local gathering place known for its burgers until a devastating fire in May 2022 destroyed the original building. After community fundraising, the current owners rebuilt the establishment at the same location. The new Green Gables Bar & Grill reopened in April 2024 with expanded seating, two grills, and a beer garden. “It’s where people meet, eat, and have good times,” according to their menu.
Green Gables has not only delicious food, but also excellent customer service. We were seated right away, and a waitress was with us shortly. It took one minute and thirty-nine seconds for us to get our drinks. Our appetizers arrived five minutes and thirty-five seconds after we ordered them. Finally, our entrees were delivered after exactly eight minutes. Shirley Temples are a huge hit among teenagers, so of course, we had to see how Green Gables were. We give it a solid 5/5. They get an extra point for giving two cherries rather than one.
They have a decently sized menu with a variety of typical American bar and grill food. Their appetizers were overall very tasty, and any of them would be good choices. The highest-rated appetizers were the mozzarella sticks, which we all gave a 5/5: excellent flavor and the breading-to-cheese ratio was perfect. Entrees-wise, the cheeseburger is the safest option as it’s a classic that Green Gables’ has come close to perfection on. There was no overwhelming meat taste, and it was very enjoyable.
In conclusion, we highly recommend this fine establishment. Grab some friends and go enjoy some delicious Green Gables grub today.
